Readings for Sunday, September 14
Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross

Learn a chant for the Mass online!

Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Second Vatican Council’s document on the Sacred Liturgy, teaches:  "Steps should be taken so that the faithful may…be able to say or to sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them" (SC 54).  This refers to the Kyrie (Lord, Have Mercy), Gloria (Glory to God in the Highest), Credo (Nicene Creed), Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy) and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God).  The Catholic bishops of our country, in Sing to the Lord (2007), have instructed that “Each worshipping community in the United States, including all age groups and all ethnic groups, should, at a minimum, learn Kyrie XVI, Sanctus XVIII, and Agnus Dei XVIII”.  Of these simple chant settings, we at St. Margaret Mary regularly sing the Kyrie and Agnus Dei, and now on the weekend of September 20-21, we will introduce the Sanctus.  To assist in learning this chant, both a sound file and a text file of Sanctus XVIII will be posted on the SMM website (www.stmargaretmary.org).  This chant can also be found in the RitualSong hymnal, #370B.  We encourage you to look and listen ahead of time.  Through our preparation for Mass we are able to bring to God our finest praises.
