A Prodigious Love: A Society of Love

"He has anointed me to proclaim glad tidings to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free."

- Luke 4:18

Who are the poor and oppressed to whom Jesus proclaimed glad tidings?

Perhaps simply distinguishing between those who have more and those who have less is a somewhat limited way of deciding who is poor.

Perhaps when Jesus said, "the poor will always be with you", he knew we are all needy.  We all need God's love and comfort.

Our Church is not an organization of mutually exclusive groups of givers and receivers.  Rather, our Church best fulfills its mission when all its members commit to sharing God's love with each other.

When Christians proclaim their shared experience of the glad tidings, our Church becomes more than just an organization of the rich and poor.  It becomes a caring and communal society of love.
