February 2 is the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas Day. According to Luke’s Gospel, when Mary and Joseph presented their child Jesus in the temple, Simeon recognized Him as the Messiah and declared him “a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” (Luke 2:32)
It is an ancient custom of the Church to bless candles on this day – candles that will be used in the coming year for worship and for devotions.
At St. Margaret Mary, there will be a blessing of candles at the 8am daily Mass on Saturday, February 2nd in the Chapel. You are invited to bring candles from home that you would like to have blessed for devotional use during the coming year.
