Is it ok to expect something important to happen when we receive the Eucharist at Mass?
Maybe in a spirit of humility we should limit our expectations. Maybe we should be less bold in what we ask of God.
In his book, Prayer: Our Deepest Longing Father Ronald Rolheiser advises that there is nothing wrong with being deeply "touched in the heart" when we seek closeness to God.
Perhaps not every Eucharistic encounter will result in deep feelings or dramatic changes. Perhaps, however, we should receive the Eucharist hoping to feel closer to God and to those with whom we worship.
Perhaps it is ok to have great expectations.
