SMM Mission

Each Year, the Diocese of Orlando asks each parish to set aside one second collection for Missions. This year, the collection will be divided equally between two very needy missions which happen to be the missions of Fr. James and Fr. Shenoy. You can read about them below.
The 2nd collection Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.)

This is the largest Clerical Religious Congregation of India with a Pontifical Right. It was founded on May 11, 1831 by Indian priests, mainly initiated by St. Chavara Kuriakose Elias. The Congregation has about 3,000 members from Syro Malabar, Syro-Malankara and La@n rites from India and Kenya with 10 bishops, 1917 priests, 19 lay brothers and 1200 brothers. Associates of CMI (ACMI) support the missionary activities of the congregation in different ways. The mission of Jagdalpur was entrusted by the Holy See to our congregation in 1970. Later, it was instituted as a mission diocese. This area was completely inhabited by the primitive tribals without any kind of developments. When the missionaries reached there it was merely a non Christian area in central India with not much knowledge about Christianity. This particular area was without education, health facilities and with many superstitious practices. But our congregation started schools, hostels, dispensaries and social service centers. Even today we work to improve the situations. Through the help of many generous people we could make a little difference in the lives of the less fortunate people in this area. The government machinery, which is corrupt, cannot do much for the development of the poor people. The people are eager to know about Christ, but the law of the land prevents them from accepting Christianity. Though in their hearts, many of them are Christians. I specially appeal your support during this time for our orphanage for the differently-abled children in our mission diocese. Thanks and God Bless….. Fr. James Tharakan

Mission appeal for Missionaries of Compassion

We are grateful to Fr. Walsh for including us in the Mission Cooperation Plan, and to all the members of St Margaret Mary parish for your kindness and generosity to our missions. Missionaries of Compassion is a religious congregation founded in the diocese of Hyderabad, India with the specific and exclusive purpose of alleviation of the sufferings of our brethren by compassionate service - to bring solace and comfort to the aged, the incurably sick and disabled who have no one to take care of them. Unfortunately, the scope of the ministry of compassion towards those suffering and abandoned is still immense in our country, especially in areas where we have our missionsTanzania, and India. Following the teaching of the Divine Master, the Missionaries of Compassion does its best to alleviate the suffering of those less fortunate. But on our own we can do nothing. It is only through the Divine providence, manifested in the generosity of people like you that we can carry on this urgent mission. We have shelter homes for the abandoned children, homes for the aged-for those elderly persons who are unwanted and abandoned by their own families, soup kitchens for those who are unable to earn a meal per day, centers for those who are affected by terminal diseases, and educational institutions for those unfortunate children who cannot exercise the right of education with the limited income of their parents. We will be very grateful if some of you can sponsor the expenses of a seminarian for his philosophical and theological studies. With an annual contribution of $300 for 6 to 8 years, you can present to the world a priest. Your contribution can be forwarded to our mission representative at your convenience, also in small installments. The seminarian whom you sponsor will pray for you and for your dear ones, and the superiors will keep you informed about the progress of his studies. Your spiritual son also will write to you during Christmas, Easter and in the beginning of the Academic year. God has abundantly blessed you. Please share some with the less fortunate. Once again we thank you all and request your generous help. We assure the prayers of our missionaries and beneficiaries. May God Bless you all. Please contact Fr. Shenoy Thomas at frshenoy@stmargaretmary.org for more information, alternatively visit our website: missionariesofcompassion.org.
