Marian Consecration

Begins July 13

You are invited to join fellow parishioners for a 33-day preparation for consecration to Jesus through Mary.  The preparation begins on July 13, and we will celebrate a group consecration on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.  Each participant will purchase their own preparation materials from the recommended list below.   A limited number of preparation booklets are available for purchase through the parish for $7.00.  To register or purchase a preparation booklet, please email [email protected].

What is Marian Consecration

The 33-day Marian consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary is a spiritual practice rooted in Catholic tradition, calling believers to dedicate themselves to Jesus through Mary.  Saint Louis de Montfort advocated that true devotion to Mary ultimately leads to a closer relationship with Jesus.  Consecration to Mary means entrusting her with one’s entire life, so that she may lead the soul more perfectly to Christ. Consecration to Mary does not surpass our love and devotion to Jesus.  It enhances it.  No one loved Jesus better than his mother.  We ask her to show us the way to be more unified with her son.

The Structure of the 33-Day Consecration

The preparation if often divided into phases:  emptying self, knowing self, knowing Mary and Jesus.  On the 34th day, the participant makes the formal act of consecration, often coinciding with a Marian feast day.

What resources do I need?  Participants can use any one of the following resources:

  • Booklet “33 Day Preparation for Total Consecration to our Lord” Meditations from the writings of St. John Paul II and Mother Adela Galindo

<A limited supply of these books is available through the parish for $7.00.  Email [email protected] to purchase a book.>

  • 33 Days to Morning Glory by Father Michael Gaitley
  • Preparation for total Consecration to Jesus Christ Through Mary by Father Hugh Gillespie
  • Servants of the Pierced Hearts YouTube Videos (https://bit.ly33DayPlaylist)

Is it Complicated?  What do I need to do?

  • Spend 5-10 minutes a day for 33 days using the resource you choose as a guide to read, meditate, and pray in preparation for formal consecration.
  • It is recommended that you go to confession prior to the consecration date or within 7-10 days following the consecration.
  • Final act: Say the consecration prayer as a group or individual. The group prayer often happens after the Mass on a Marian feast day and includes a blessing by a priest. Our parish-wide Marian Consecration event will be on August 15th – the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.  Details will be provided to registered participants.

What if I miss some days or fall behind?

  • Get back on track and combine a couple of days into one.
  • Know that it is your spirit of commitment and surrender to Mary that is needed. She knows life happens.
