First Communion

Preparation for First Holy Communion is a shared ministry, belonging first to parents, and then supported by the parish. Children are fully initiated into the celebration of the Mass through lessons using Scripture, prayer experiences, discussion and written activities.

In January 2021, virtual training/orientation will be held to assist parents as they prepare their children for First Eucharist. Families will use Together in Jesus, First Eucharist for children in grades 2 and 3. Children in grades 4 and 5 will use God’s Gift, Eucharist and will be taught by a catechist. Children in middle school and high school should contact the Youth Ministry Office for information about sacrament preparation.

The sacrament of First Holy Communion will be celebrated in the late Spring. In person retreats will be held in February and March. Exact dates and times will be provided at the parent training. Children must celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation before preparing for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.

A paper or digital copy of your child’s baptismal certificate must be sent to the church office prior to sacrament preparation.
