The Developing Baby – My Heart Is Beating

Written by Mike Roche’s father: Bill Roche, A parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Diocese of Venice

Recall we recently celebrated the Solemnity of the Annunciation when our Blessed Mother conceived our Lord Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now consider all the children conceived since that time. Many of these children will be threatened by abortion. How do we protect them? The Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen suggested spiritually adopting an unborn child who is in danger of being aborted. Let us all commit to this short daily prayer until Christmas for the child each of us has spiritually adopted: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

Now what is the status of a baby recently conceived in late March. That baby has been quite active over the past month. Already that baby is 10,000 times bigger than at conception. By the 20th day, the baby has developed the foundations of her brain, spinal cord, and nervous system. Her heart began to beat on the 21st day and is pumping blood through her own circulatory system. During the next month this baby is most vulnerable to being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of all mothers to give their babies the most precious gift of all—the gift of life. Always remember “Jeremaih 1:5-Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.”(This series on the developing baby will run on or about the 25th of each month for 9 months.
